Today Christopher and I were on our own at Hawks game. We march right past the arcade and though he really really really wanted to go in there I said no. I told him after the game then we go there. He protested in several appropriate ways. And over all he did really great! He made a new friend at the rink today too. Not sure exactly how old she was but I think 11 and not sure exactly her diagnosis but pretty sure she's on the spectrum somewhere. She had poor body boundary awareness and carried a very much loved bear she called "bearie" and had great fun playing with Christopher. The name of her bear so literal, "Bearie" is the same way that Christopher names his things, Cow = "Cow" our cat has a name but he calls him Kitty and before that when he though it was bunny thats what he call it. She was very sweat, and happy. A lot like our Christopher so no wonder why they hit off. She had a rather long name - and I only had to tell Christopher once and he was calling to her to come play. OK - so we made all the way through the game - no melt downs. Phew - off to the arcade. Praise, praise, praise - "You did it, you were so good, you waited and now we get to go to the arcade we're on 3, we're on 2, Christopher the buzzers going to make a loud sound now, and we are on 1, we can go now, good job!"
RING - my cell phone, it's Hawk calling from the locker room. Jeez whats wrong? "Mom, I 've been asked to play a second game by a great team thats short handed can I stay?? Please??"
On one shoulder the Good Mom saying WAHOO Good for you how exciting sure you can stay.
On he other shoulder the disgruntled Mom saying YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! I just talked your brother through one game and we are at the reward . . .now what???
OK, sure. Have fun. / Thanks Mom!
Next stop - snack shop, we were gonna need to stock up to get through this. Chocolate for Christopher and Coffee for me!
We had a blast! Sure we didn't sit for the game but he for the most part stayed right near me allowing me to watch the game, and occasionally we took to some running around fun together. He did TWO games back to back. Way to go Christopher.
Hawk played two games back to back with full effort in both so much so he didn't notice his toes freezing. Poor guy got a touch of frostbite.

http://hawkchabo.blogspot.com/2011/02/near-miss-someones-child-badly-missed.html
For this reason I am thankful that we despite the miles we travel continue to be safe. Prayers to the family's that have lost loved ones in car accidents.

Round and Round - a 300 Mile Day! (Oops - revised makes more sense now)
I know this seems like a crazy silly thing to post - has very little to do with Christopher, but it has everything to do with just how busy we can be. I wanted to post this so not to forget that we survived another schedule crazed day!
300+/- Miles - Yikes, this was a long day! Guess the nick name "TAXI" was well earned on this day.

Mostly Hawk - but Christopher gets his moment in the end - as usual. LOL
So this video was supposed to be all about Hawk, and mostly is. He's practicing some of his concert music. Listen along and enjoy his playing - - - or skip ahead on the counter of 3:20 to see how Christopher manages to get our attention for not paying close enough attention to him. He is such a monkey!

Just now . . .
ME "Christopher, we are getting close to Nigh-Nights."
CHRISTOPHER "No, Never!"
Having spent such long time to hear him speak makes me laugh and have so much more patience for the things that come out of his mouth these days!
Lucky for him. Maybe more parents should exercise such patience. Patience I know I didn't have or extend to Hawk when he was this age. But now that Hawk is fast approaching the teen years I am making up for lost time on patience. Lots of patience needed. LOL. WINK.

Tunnel
Better Start has been working on habitats and animal tracks and patterns. Proof he's learning. We are walking through the parking lot on our way into the Dr's Office and he yanks on my arm to point out to me the animal tunnel. "Ook a Ton nail" Of course we had to stop and explore it for a few minutes. I admit I was a little worried that something might actually come out.
Hockey rink last weekend.
We should be at a game now - but it was cancelled due to concerns of roof collapse from the amount of snow ! Glad to know though that someone took the care to call the game if they're concerned about the roof!
Oh well - here's some photo's from last weekend. Christopher totally hamming it up for the camera. He is so fast - he's hard to catch on the camera. Oh well even though blurry I can't help but smile cause we were having so much fun.
It's interesting that depending on which rink we go to depends on his behavior. We always have fun at this rink so got me thinking . . . what are the differences from rink to rink . . . how do those difference factor in his responses to behavior. Well lighting; some are dark, some are well lit. Sound; some have echo's, some have beeps, honks, music. Bleachers; some are safe, many are NOT. Some are metal (never understood this is the freezing cold) some are wood. Some are even plastic bucket style seats. Heating; some have heated areas - most do not. Viewing areas; some have great running space with lots of vending and game machines to climb on in and behind. Windows and glass; some are too high for him to see the game, others are nice and low so he can see the action.
Lighting McQueen
New hand me down - Lighting McQueen Shirt and a fist full of cookies.
DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!
THANK FOR THE SHIRT! (From L's son.)
COINS!
We turned in all of our coins last week. That was so much fun . . . Christopher was putting it in by this fists full. Sent Daddy off for a week of fun in the northern country to snowmobile with the guys with some extra cash in pocket for gas in the machines from our coins cash in. Yeah Daddy comes home today!
No Booster Seat
This goes back to about a month ago - just getting around to posting. And yes I took these photos while driving, but as you can see it's not the only law I am breaking. Notice the toddler climbing into the front seat with his brother! OK, so I thought since he is big enough, weighs enough, and old enough it might be time to switch to the booster seat. Wrong! Climbs himself right out. Looks like I am going to have to find a five point harness car seat for a monster size child. By the way this all happened less than 1/2 mile from home. So I was driving slow and simply drove home. I would have obviously pulled over if not for being feet from our last turn. Thankfully we were close to home - because I can only imagine how many times I would have had to pull over to put him back in - he was definitely stuck in a defiant I want to do it my way streak! Now that some time has passed we might try again on shorter trips - but I will have the other seat in car as back up!

Christopher reads to Mommy
Tonight he flipped all the routine on me. Lay down Mommy. Here's your water. And he sat on the side of the bed where I usually sit and read to me. Well OK not really reading yet, but his version of reading. Sneaky duck almost put me to sleep and got to stay up and run the house himself.

Hair Cut
BEFORE
Well I brave another home hair cut! Still pretty traumatic but gets easier each time. This time he sat much better though he definitely protested! But with far less tears and a lot more words. After we were all done he became very upset and confused why his hair was on the floor and WHY are you putting into the vacuum Mommy? He motioned to put it all back onto his head.
