Better-Start Classroom Performance

Last night the Better-start Class hosted a short performance for family and friends.  We had pizza, visited with friends and enjoyed their reading of "Pigeon Wants A Puppy".  Written by Mo Willems.

Happy to attend he skips into the cafeteria.
While not sitting like his school friends - he does stay present in the circle.

CALL THE WHITE HOUSE FRIDAY JAN 14th

Dear friends,

Today I participated in a conference call sponsored by The National Womens Law Center, that offered some explanation and understanding of the challenges we face as Federal budgets are being drafted and revised for Fiscal Year 2011 and 2012. Speakers in that call were;

* Helen Blank, National Women's Law Center
* Danielle Ewen, CLASP
* Adele Robinson, National Association for the Education of Young Children
* Harriet Dichter, First Five Years Fund

In that call I learned of several ways that we can advocate for the our children and the importance of the dollars needed to fund these critical programs that support their development and learning abilities. I will share more with you as I have more concrete information for additional steps that we can take to support our early learners.

In the meantime here is one simple step that you can make to help make a difference. Please consider making time to place a call tomorrow as advised below.
Also please be sure to spread this information as you see fit.

Thank you.

Subject: CALL WHITE HOUSE FRIDAY JANUARY 14 -- prevent cuts to Child Care, Head Start and Early Head Start

We need you take a moment Friday, January 14 to Call the White House
Urge the White House to protect, sustain, and maintain critical funding for early childhood programs.

We have a new Congress ahead of us, and we must do everything we can to get them started on the right foot for young children and their families.

As you know, the battles over funding for Fiscal Year 2011 are still not settled. Your calls did help us get a lot of positive attention to early childhood. The new Congress has to finish the spending bill for last year. A temporary funding measure passed but this Congress will have to act again before March 4, when the last continuing resolution (CR) they passed will expire.

How to Call the White House:
Please call 1-202-456-1111

Due to the large number of calls we're generating, if you have trouble getting through to the comment line, please hang up and dial 1-202-456-1111 again until you're able to leave a message.

Message for the Call:

In the message you leave, ask them to:

  • Protect funding for child care, Head Start, and Early Head Start to help us build a smarter, healthier, and stronger America
  • Sustain the $1 billion funding for Head Start/Early Head Start as well as the $1 billion funding for child care during Fiscal Year 2011, and
  • Maintain these levels into Fiscal Year 2012.

Families and children are depending on this funding, which is at immediate risk. With your help, we'll make sure decision makers can't ignore these families and children.

Please ask your friends and colleagues to call too. Thank you!
